Requirements: Unity version 2019.4.31f1, PoyomiToon 7.3.050 & VRChats latest SDK (3.0)

Compatibility: Only compatible for PCVR - this includes Quest w link cable, but Quest standalone is currently not possible. However, it can be converted to it.

Introduction:

This model is an interpretation of the Inchling Origin, which was played by the content creator Sneegsnag on the modded minecraft server “Origins SMP”. The design of the inchling was inspired to be a bug-like creature, which somewhat resembles a moth. The model was made by using Blender, and the general design of the character was made by me, Naiver.

This model was made for pure fun for people to use however they want in VRChat, but if you wanna convert it to VSeeFace too, you're more than welcome to do that aswell. Do keep in mind, this is my first "proper" model, so it will get a wonky on smaller parts, and those parts are described below in the notes. Either way have fun!

Notes:

So, before we get into the features and the installment and all that, let me note off a few things which are a little messy with the model, just to give a heads-up for what you’re gonna experience.

Note 1 - Leg bending: The model has a Digitigrade leg-system, so it fits more with the models proportions, as it is modeled after a creature rather than a human. Due to this leg-system, the crouching/laying down animation may look a bit funky. However, the walking animation should be working just fine, along with fullbody! - however fullbody I sadly cannot test, as I (currently) don’t have it.

Note 2 - Cape mesh: A minor flaw in the model i noticed is when making facial expressions a tiny spot will turn some meshes black, which is due to the blender model likely having a vertice which was messed with and had gone unnoticed when i imported it to unity. And because of this weird vertice, the outline shader freaks out a bit. It’s not anything majorly noticeable, but nonetheless, I think it’s worth pointing out. The other thing about the front of the cape, is that the bending of the arms/shoulders and weight painting around that area is a little messy. And that's a fault on my part both due to the low poly in that area of the model, but also the weight painting.

But beside that it should work fine. Now. let's get into the features and installments shall we?

Features:

The model has 5 different expressions which are mapped to the hand gestures on the right hand. The following expressions are:

  • Expressions: Neutral, happy, angry, smug & eyebrow raise.

Beside that, the model has two prop Toggles which both include my interpretation of the design for Sneegs trident.

  • Toggle 1: Equip the Trident to the back of the Avatar
  • Toggle 2: Equip the Trident to the right hand

Requirements & Uploading:

The general setup and how to import unity packages for VRChat and upload it can be found in tutorials on YouTube, as there are plenty which explains everything quick and simple.

When opening a unity project, be sure to import the packages in the right order, else the files for the model are gonna get confused and mess up. So please import each package in the following order:

  1. Import the VRChat SDK first
  2. Then import the PoyomiShader package second
  3. And then last, import the Avatar package which you get from here.

After installing everything in this order, the model should very well be done and ready for upload, but feel free to mess around with the shaders/adding more props or other stuff to the model as you see fit.

Before you upload: Be sure to check the Pipeline manager and if the ID is detached or not. If it isn't, then be sure to detach it!

To upload the model go to the top of the Unity project and click on “VRChat SDK”, and in the dropdown then click “Show Control panel”. From there, log into your account, click “Builder” and then click the button “Build & Publish for Windows”.

My Contacts:

If you have any questions regarding the model or need help with uploading it, feel free to reach out to me on either my Twitter(@RedNaiver) or Discord (Red-Naiver#1123) I’ll be happy to answer or help with anything!

Do keep in mind however, that I’m by no means an expert in Unity, and learned to make the model through many trials and errors. The only way I got through this was through a huge wave of tutorials haha. But after using it for a solid month now, I'm pretty used to it by now.
